In Yosemite, hidden away on the side of El Capitan, there's a rope that dangles over a sheer granite drop-off. Who set the rope up? No one knows. Were they competent? I couldn't tell you. How often is it checked? No clue. You just hike up, attach your climbing harness, run, jump, and hope.
